Kindy Uplift Music Program

Building Educator Capability Through Practical Music-Based Strategies
Every kindergarten cohort is different.

Educators may be supporting children who find transitions difficult, struggle to sustain attention, become overwhelmed in groups, communicate in different ways or lack confidence joining and contributing.

The Kindy Uplift Music Program helps educators use music intentionally to support children’s:

  • communication and language
  • emotional regulation
  • attention and participation
  • social connection
  • confidence and self-expression
  • movement and coordination

Children enjoy engaging musical experiences while educators observe, participate and practise strategies they can continue using throughout the kindergarten day.

No musical experience is required.

More Than a Music Incursion

This is not simply a one-off music session for children.

Delivered within the kindergarten environment, the program combines interactive music experiences with practical educator learning.
Registered Music Therapist Sarah Punch models how and why particular musical strategies work, while educators have opportunities to try them, reflect and consider how they could be adapted for their own routines and cohort.

The goal is to leave educators with simple, sustainable tools- not just provide a fun musical experience.

Designed Around Your Cohort

The program is tailored to the strengths, needs and priorities identified by each service.
It may be particularly helpful where educators are noticing:
  • difficulty joining or remaining involved in group experiences
  • limited confidence expressing choices or ideas
  • challenges with transitions or changes in routine
  • reduced attention, impulse control or persistence
  • difficulties with turn-taking and shared interaction
  • high sensory or emotional regulation needs
  • barriers to participation for children with diverse communication and learning profiles

Together, we identify practical ways music can support meaningful participation within everyday kindergarten experiences.

Areas of Focus

Transitions and Everyday Routines

Simple songs and musical cues to support pack-up time, handwashing, waiting, group times and movement between activities.

Emotional Regulation and Wellbeing

Rhythm, movement and predictable musical experiences that support connection, co-regulation and emotional awareness.

Communication and Language

Music-based strategies that encourage listening, vocalising, language, choice-making, turn-taking and shared interaction.

Participation, Confidence and Connection

Musical experiences that help children feel safe to join in, contribute ideas, take a turn and experience success within a group.

Attention and Movement

Activities that support sustained engagement, impulse control, body awareness, coordination and responding to instructions.

How the Program Works

Programs are usually delivered as a short series of in-class visits and may include:
  • an initial discussion about your service’s priorities
  • interactive sessions involving children and educators
  • modelling and practice of practical music strategies
  • brief educator reflection and collaborative problem-solving
  • songs, visual supports and implementation resources
  • follow-up recommendations for continued use

The program is designed to support ongoing changes in educator practice rather than relying on Sarah’s continued presence.

Kindy Uplift Priority Areas

Depending on the needs identified by your service, the program may support the Kindy Uplift priority areas of:
  • social and emotional learning
  • executive function
  • language and literacy
  • physicality

Kindy Uplift funding may be suitable where the program aligns with your service’s identified priorities and data-informed planning.

Why Work With a Registered Music Therapist?

She has worked with children across healthcare, disability, community and educational settings, including children with developmental differences, communication challenges and diverse regulation and learning needs. She's also a current kindy mum!

Activities are selected not simply for entertainment, but for how they can help educators respond to an identified learning, participation or wellbeing need.
