TELEHEALTH

ONLINE MUSIC THERAPY

Picture
Sarah has over 15 years experience working with clients of all ages and abilities from birth, to adulthood, to end stage life. Delivering music therapy online was a service option that was launched during initial Covid-19 lockdowns. Sarah is proud to have developed a robust online service during the pandemic which is continuing on due to the overwhelmingly positive responses from new and existing clients.

This enables Sarah to see clients residing outside the face-to-face service area including those living in remote locations across Australia. Additionally, a large percentage of her online clients are those living with a psychosocial disability who feel more comfortable accessing therapy this way.

Telehealth may be appropriate for the following reasons:
  • clients who are immune suppressed or admitted for inpatient treatment preventing face-to-face contact
  • clients who are travelling and unable to attend face-to-face sessions
  • clients who find face-to-face sessions overwhelming and are more comfortable engaging virtually
  • clients living in an area they are unable to find a music therapist for face-to-face sessions
  • clients desiring to reduce the cost of therapy by avoiding travel fees
  • clients who prefer evening sessions (7:30pm and 8:30pm sessions are available some nights AEST)

Evidence supporting the delivery of music therapy online is growing with some researchers suggesting it may be just as effective as face-to-face sessions. This has certainly been our experience- even more effective in some cases. We are successfully running online sessions with clients aged 3 to 94! The primary demographic for online sessions are adults who have an intellectual or psychosocial disability. It is a format that works very well for this population. Many of these clients are learning an instrument during therapy, or singing, or songwriting, all of which are effectively offered via Telehealth. Clients reside in and around Australia and even overseas.
The first video shown is clever little Luka's first session. He has a vision impairment (CVI) and developmental delay, but impressed us all with his transition from face-to-face to online music therapy.

The second video is of Helen who is in her mid-90s and has severe dementia. She became isolated during the pandemic so her caring family arranged an iPad so she could continue her music therapy sessions online. What an amazing woman.

Telehealth is not a suitable option for everyone. To discuss whether it's right for you or to find out more, please contact us.
